No Smartphones for the kids in schoolsÄlykkäämpi
I am not in favour of allowing kids to have smartphones in the school. However since it was not prohibited in the school and all kids had it, I also had to get it for my 7 years old daughter.
At that age, I see it as more of a distraction for the child than having any merits associated with it. I have observed kids walking on the road/boarding-unboarding trams while being glued to their phones, watching you tube videos, chatting on whatsapp groups with friends and playing games. If it is important from communicating with the parents for valid reasons, a basic phone could also suffice.
There are other countries (UK, France) that have banned smartphones in the school. There are also some medical researches behind the negative effects of screentime on a childs brain. I feel we should assess if there are other parents who feel the same and if there is something that can be done.
